What's My Sport?
by SPORTS ILLUSTRATED WOMEN
We sent four experts a few pictures of elite
athlete Deb Sroczynski and asked them to guess her sport.
Erica McKeon, sports agent, Bruce Levy Associates
"I think that she is a professional weightlifter. You can tell she's got a tremendous amount of muscle mass, but it's not toned like it would be if she were doing something cardiovascular."
Sara Whalen, midfielder for the WUSA's New York Power
"She's very strong, and she's very fit. When we were training for the Olympics, we were surrounded by a lot of rowers. They had very strong legs, very strong arms, and that's what made me think she might be a rower too."
Brian Kries, director of personal training for Crunch Gym, Miami
"Water polo. To be an elite athlete and still maintain this kind of body composition, that means her body temperature isn't getting high enough to sustain a fat-burning temperature. Which means she's probably in the water ... She's also right-handed. And her right shoulder is elevated and internally rotated more than her left. That's going to mean she's doing something overhead, a throwing or hitting type movement."
Glenn Fleisig, Ph.D., Smith & Nephew chair of research at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham
"I'd say she's a cyclist. What jumped out at me were the size and definition of her legs, in particular the quadriceps, which are the key muscle group for pushing down the pedal. And she looks like she has a firm abdomen; the elite cyclists don't just use their legs, they're using their whole bodies."
